OMC – Optical Melting Control: Technical Details

Hardware / Software

standard – PC with framegrabber camera-signal-input, windows-operating system, furnace camera should be installed (delivery only on demand), PC-CP-cards for connecting the PC with already installed automation systems  (SIEMENS S5/S7 for example)

Applications

industrial furnaces, for instance the glass, ceramic and steel industerial furnaces, use in-situ for continuous measurement of  relevant, visual process-data

Efficiency

- continous measurement of data  like batch-coverage, batch melting-gradient, specific form of the covered area measuring the with fire covered area – all examples for data which are not accessible with other than picture processing methods

- quantifying of otherwise only intuitively-visual used data, therefore comparibilty with other plants or other situations, long-term data-archieves for the measured data like batch coverage, or batch-melting gradient – through this investigation of  correlations between the retrieved data and glass quality or energy usage transmit of data via Profibus/MPI/Ethernet or others to an existing automation system  (that is using the PC as an intelligent transmitter for picture processing) – installation of new control circuits based on measured data with  picture processing  (controlling energy flow based on the target value of batch coverage or form of the batch area), alarms coming from the automation system if batch is not „behaving well“ – for example batch is “drifting to one side” or similar things

-through new control circuits based on very process-close data like the mentioned batch-coverage (instead or additional to known control circuits like roof-temperature or STG-Lambda-control) energy saving and quality control through measuring of batch melting gradient creation of a number correlated to the “Unterofenströmungswalze”, control / quantifying / long-term storage of measured data

Achievements of  STG

- delivery of  PC with framegrabber for video-signal-processing, depending on customer additional PC-cards (CP’s) for connecting and  transmitting the measured/filtered data to existing automation devices

- on demand integration of the measured data  in existing automation systems / control circuits

- installation and commissioning of  PC + software, documentation / reports using EXCEL or others etc., long-term storage of measured data

- delivery of furnace camera only on special demand, normally an existing furnace camera should be already installed

- accomodation of software concerning customer needs for measuring other visual process-data

Options

- delivery of software-updates, ongoing improvement of picture processing software, individual solutions for customers
